The I-20 is the Certificate of Eligibility for students in F-1 status. It is an important document that international students and their F-2 dependents will use to apply for their visa, enter the U.S., and remain in status.
New international students may request their I-20 from ISSS once they have formally accepted an offer of admission (through paying a deposit or other formal means). Once the university information system (OPUS) has been updated to indicate the student's intent to enroll, the student will receive an email with instructions on how to log in to ISSS Link, Emory’s international student and scholar web-based portal, and submit the New Student I-20 Request e-form.
Students and scholars that need immigration advice outside of the realm of the ISSS office are encouraged to speak with an immigration attorney. Please remember that the information provided is solely a service to our students and scholars. We are not endorsing or making specific recommendations
The type of immigration status a scholar needs depends on the type of activities they will perform at Emory, and ISSS will help the hiring/hosting department decide which immigration classification is the best choice. For a brief overview of the different immigration status types, download our "Choosing the Right Immigration Status" handout.
Hosted by ISSS and the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life, International Community Friday Lunch is an opportunity to meet students and scholars from around the globe, learn more about on- and off-campus resources, and feel part of the Emory community while enjoying free lunch. The lunch is provided on a first come, first served basis.
ISSS Link is a portal that provides individualized, web-based services to Emory University's international students, scholars, and department administrators.

After receiving the Limited Access PIN to the e-mail that ISSS has on file, the student will use the PIN to log into ISSS Link.

Host/Hiring Department Administrators:
Prior to gaining access to ISSS Link, department administrators need to attend "Bringing the World to Emory: the Basics of Hiring Foreign Nationals," ISSS' 3-hour training session. Once the administrator has attended the training and submitted a completed Departmental Access Authorization Form to ISSS, they will be granted access to ISSS Link and can login using their Emory Network ID and password.

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a unique number used by individuals who need to file a tax return but are not eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN). International students and scholars who receive funding from Emory without providing services in return, will need to apply for an ITIN in order to file their taxes. This includes students receiving non-service stipends, non-service scholarships, etc.
