International scholars in J-1, H-1B, O-1, TN or E-3 status have certain requirements mandated by federal regulations that they need to be aware of, and comply with, during their Emory program/employment. Failure to maintain one's nonimmigrant status can prevent a scholar from meeting all of their professional and personal goals. Therefore, it is very important that scholars are aware of these requirements and avoid any violations.
It is a scholar's responsibility to maintain their immigration status and documents. This can be easy as long as scholars know the proper steps and keep track of deadlines.
F-1 and J-1 international students have certain requirements mandated by federal regulations that they need to be aware of, and comply with, during their studies. This can be easy as long as students know the proper steps and keep track of deadlines.
Examples of these requirements include pursuing a full course of study, making normal progress toward program completion, and obtaining authorization before starting employment. For a full list of these requirements, visit ISSS' Maintenance of International Student Status page. Note that most of these rules apply to both F-1 and J-1 students, but there are some additional requirements for J exchange visitors (i.e. maintaining health insurance that meets the US Department of State's requirements).
International students, scholars, and their dependents have two options for mobile phone service in the United States: pre-paid service or contract-based service. It is recommended that students and scholars do some research before choosing a service type, selecting a carrier, and signing a contract.
